12 days and counting

Well its only 12 days until I become a married woman & my emotions are swinging from ecstatic to mind-numbing panic to sick with nerves. We’ve been planning this event for 10 months, who would have thought that I’d get nerves??? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited to be marrying Alex. I truly believe he is the one for me. Its just such a huge step!

We’ve only got one more weekend to get stuff done and its not much stuff, but its enough. Luckily, for me, it’s a 3 day weekend. We need to assemble the favors & the programs. We need to iron on the bridesmaid shirts. We need to wrap all the gifts, and lastly we need pack. :-D

That is right, pack for our honeymoon. Oh and write our personal vows, nothing big right??!!

learning curves

So Alex and I are still in that "new couple" phase, not because of time known. Though many might consider the fact that we've only been date 1.5 yrs at this point very little. No, its because we are moving into a new phase of life.

As I see it, each time you enter a new phase i.e. dating, 'going steady', engagement, marriage, babies (OMG cant think of this yet), etc you enter a learning curve with your significant other. Alex and I are still learning...probably always will be ... about each other. Last night was just yet another example.

I must admit, I've just learned to drive a shift stick vehicle. Yes I am almost 25 and just now learned to drive a manual. Saturday was my first venture, on back country roads, alone. So last night I, in my eagerness over of the fact that I CAN drive the jeep, state I'll drive to home depot. Lo & behold the entire way there Alex gives me "pointers." Let me just say, when a child first learns to ride a bike and shows you how well they can do it, do you state things like "wonderful but lean forward more" or "well thats good but you should brake like this." Of course not, you applaud and then enter these tips in to future forays out into the world together. Alex...heaps lessons on you in bulk hoping, I guess, to pass his skill and knowledge through osmosis?

Now then, taking all this into consideration, adding on the Alex is a man...shopping with me, and the fact that we both can be obstinate and have attitudes and you can imagine the conversations. We swung from "jeez if you have such an idiotic issue with me driving why did you let me drive and even teach me to drive your jeep!?!" to "well why didnt you look up pricing online punkin" to "hold my damn hand" (we're terribly romantic arent we?)

All of this ended with a mini-foray through a house we are looking at and compliments to one another. We are def still learning.

wedding planning achievements

Well this past weekend, while seemingly slow achieved a lot. Despite not having ordered these items we have successfully found vendors for the following:
1. shephard's hooks
2. tulle - lots and lots and lots of tulle.
3. table overlays

Plus we have the following under control...or at least beginning to be under control:
1. flowers for reception decor
2. groomsmen gifts...FINALLY
3. wedding invites....print and then a month to just address/label/mail. Woot! this makes it feel more real.
4. all my jewelry
5. all the bridesmaid gifts
6. grandparent quick memory books
7. a rough idea of what kind of cake Alex likes....could pulling teeth be any easier than this, I think so!

So go family...it was more than mom and I.

87 days to go!!

Welp, in case you missed it from the title, only 87 more days. That is 86 to many in my personal opinion. Still I have a bachelorette party in July, plus my birthday in July, to look forward to. And a shower to look forward to in August. Its like the calm before the storm in the world of planning. Very odd feeling.

I need to meet with the florist, have Alex settle on the guys bout's, have a hair rehearsal run in August, put together all the gifts, relax, and make sure just all the "stuff" comes together. Oh and put together and mail invites. heh.

They Came! They Came!

YAY our wedding album, our wedding guest book, and our cake topper all came! I'll take pics and post them tonight, but they are based on the WillowTree "Promise" design like the pic to the right. I'm so happy.
I also got the bridesmaid gifts completed, and the extended family gifts completed. Now to get Alex to work on his groomsmen gifts & our respective parents gifts & we'll be golden.

More Planning adventures

Welp, more adventures in planning. By all accounts this wedding is planned. We just really need to order the decorations & make that which we've planned. Then I need to talk to the florist and confirm the flower orders. Then we are done. How about that?

Our every day lives have just started getting more frustrating. I know money is the #1 reason that couples break-up. Alex & I have vowed this not to happen to us, but lately its been nothing but frustrations. I handle the money and we talk about the money. We lately have agreed to spend only cash. However it feels as though we both struggle with this so I am not sure quite what to do. Sighs either way we need to have a serious talk and come to an agreement.

A Man's way of thinking....

So yesterday Alex and I head off to my parents' house. I had ordered a replacement cell phone & as we share a family plan it ships to the billing location. Away we go....

5 mins prior to walking out of the house I noted that my jeans felt quite tight, but that was likely because they had just come out of the dryer. No big deal, right?!?!?

In the car, A is driving. As he adjusts the radio volumne down I note this is because he wants to talk. (He only turns the volumn down when he wants to talk.) I look at him expectantly, but for an odd moment he doesnt open his mouth. And then . . .this comes out. "ifyouthinkyourjeansaretotightmaybeyoushouldgoonadiet" I took a moment to translate this and then just stared at him.

Excuse me? Did you just say what I think you said? Because I know that with me worried about fitting into my wedding dress and the fact that I already have some issues that are body image related that you did NOT just tell me that.

At this point he glances at me and then the following conversation occurs:
"Well our relationship is built on honesty and we've agreed to always be honest with one another. And you just didnt seem happy that you might have to go up a jeans size. I'm just trying to help!"
"Dear - no woman in her right mind is going to appreciate a fiance, husband, s.o.'s help of 'well just go on a diet'"
"why not? its not like a big deal, so you need to eat less & do crunches, no big deal. Sides you arent fat."
"Oh my god. I cannot believe you think this way. . .I'm so done with this conversation. I appreciate the attempt at help, but in the future just tell me you think I am beautiful."
"You are being ridiculous."

Now we get to my 'rents house about now & the first thing my mother notices is that I am 1. not looking so happy and 2. alex is looking put out. So she asks the loving question of "what happened?" Alex relates the story along the lines of, well she just didnt want to go up a jeans size so I offered a few suggestions on how to avoid that. To which I laughed. Then I gave a more detailed explanation.
"Mom, he told me to go on a diet after I mentioned my jeans were a little tight."

At this point my father walked in, looked at A and said..."come into my office and lets talk about how to reply to women."

That was my evening. Yours?

wedding planning update

Wow - so I havent been on in far to long. Just to quickly re-cap, I left off with plans to re-arrange our apartment. HA! Nothing fit where it was supposed to so now our apartment is one big jumbled mess. We are however, houseshopping. We are saving up money, paying down some items, with the full intent to purchase a house around October. How exactly we are supposed to do this, I am still not 100% sure as Alex's car insurance went up. Amazingly he doesnt seem to know how, but given the speeding ticket we paid a month or so ago I am personally amazed by his cluelessness.

Wedding plans: Its all booked, except a florist. I have made an executive decision regarding flowers. We are going silk for all decor. Its a quarter of the price of real, they wont die - I can sell them on ebay if need be for more $$. So we have decided to find out cost for the wedding party flowers from the same florist who did my brother's funeral. Creepy, but I know they do good work, meet very unusual requests (we requested the ocean out of flowers for goodness sake) with skill & talent, and are reasonably priced. Plus they'll deliver. All in all, they serve our needs best.

I've also managed to find a way to pay off this year, ready for it, $5000 in debt. 2k mine, 2k Alex's and 1k joint. Absolutely amazing. All this while saving for a house AND wedding costs, including the honeymoon. I know its rude & crass & all in all the hoped for but not spoken about portion of a wedding, but we hope for monetary gifts. Only because we can buy a big screen t.v. later, we dont really need that cake decorating set or a lot of the material items. Money, money we can use to pay off debt, walk into this marriage 100% debt free & then be able to purchase a house. That is just an absolutely amazing feeling.

So that is my update. I'll be back with more later.

Household plans

So, to give you an idea of our housing situation, we live in a small 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment that is just a mere 650 sq ft. With two animals. And a BUNCH of stuff. And its not clutter, because we are oddly neat people. Its simply Mr soon-to-be GAJeep has lost his mother already & many of the items are things he has inherited. He & his mom are estranged from half the family and so it has become his, and thus my, duty to keep alive half of a family history. Plus the blue hutch is gorgeous! I really love it.

Anyway, I'm getting antsy to say the least and so last night my loving fiance spent an hour plus measuring items & working with me so that we can re-arrange our house into a beautiful new layout. It starts with the bedroom tonight & excites me a retarded amount.
I'll have to take before & after pics tonight. And then i'll do the same for the living room tomorrow. :)

And I'm going to take pics of our lovely wedding adventure while in Macon too. YAY pictures!

Wedding Plans are Jaunting Along . . .

Well we've, or I should say I, have gotten much of the planning done. The location is in gorgeous Dahlonega, Ga at Forrest Hills Resort who also will be handling the reception. YAY! That was my #1 requirement, a location that can handle the reception in addition to the ceremony & can handle the catering if I so desire them to. Thank goodness!

The dress has been found through Savvi, a tux place primarily but they had a designer trunk show which was awesome! The tuxes have been ordered, the bridesmaid gowns are happening this weekend. We've got a photographer (I love you Christi!) & a videographer (Terri you made dreams come true!). Plus a DJ & a pastor. Finally! We got a pastor. Mom is a pastor, but heaven forbid she do this wedding. I love my mother, but she is "Mom" not "Pastor" to me.

So yea, our planning is hopping right along. We just need a few other details - like a florist. :-p And to pick shoes for me, get my gown altered, book the honeymoon, you know little things.

Let Me Introduce Myself

Well Hello everyone! Let me introduce myself with a quick basic overview. As time goes on I'm sure you'll get to know me and Mr. GeorgiaJeep quite well.

As you can tell we are two jeep loving peep's who live together in the North Georgia mountains, but I'm working on getting us to the coast. ;) Our wedding is a few short months away and I'm soooooo excited! I've learned a lot already just planning this "event" & by us moving in together a full year ahead of the wedding.

We have two "babies," Mikey the pug & Beezle the cat. They, more than us, run our lives. Figures huh?
